Martin Fairbairn Music (MFM) is committed to protecting your personal data and will use any personal or sensitive data we collect from you in line with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). MFM is a Data Controller under the GDPR.

Your personally identifiable information is kept secure. Only authorized staff (who have agreed to keep information secure and confidential) have access to this information.

How we use Cookies

Cookies are very small text files that are stored on your computer when you visit some websites.

You can disable any cookies already stored on your computer, but these may stop our website from functioning properly.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Who we share your data with

Martin Fairbairn Music will never sell trade, rent, exchange or otherwise share your personal information with any other person, company or organization. The data that you provide at the time of registration is held by our music school management software 10 to 8, which is GDPR compliant. Your name, email address and postal address are also held in our email and accounting systems. Your initial registration information is temporarily held within Martin Fairbairn Music’s Google Drive system before being transferred to the 10 to 8 system, after which it is deleted from Google Drive. Lesson and practice notes are held in Martin Fairbairn Music’s Google Drive and Google Classroom systems.

Only authorized employees (who have agreed to keep information secure and confidential) have access to this information.

How long we retain your data

We will keep your contact information for as long as you or your child remains an active student at Martin Fairbairn Music. We will keep contact form entries for six months, analytics records for a year, and customer account records for 5 years.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account with us, you can request all the personal data we hold about you at any time (see the Contacts page for contact details). You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Where applicable, we will use name and date of birth details to register for exams with exam boards, such as ABRSM and Trinity College London.

What data do we collect and how we use it

When you enrol yourself or your child to study at Martin Fairbairn Music we will ask you to provide the following information as part of the registration process:

  • Your name, where relevant, relationship to child/ren
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Phone number(s)
  • Emergency contact details
  • Relevant medical conditions and allergies.

During your studies / your child’s studies we will record information about planned and actual progress, all of which will be shared with you.

This data will be used by us to process your registration, manage your account with Martin Fairbairn Music and to organise and run our activities. We collect this data to provide you with the service agreed under our terms and conditions.

You are only required to provide the information necessary for us to form a contract with you, if you do not wish to provide the required information your child cannot study with us.

We will only contact you with necessary communications relating to your ongoing account with us (e.g. term dates, holidays, exams, concerts, re-enrolment or payment details). These are mandatory communications.
